Volunteering and community
I volunteer because useful communities are built through repeated, practical care: welcoming people, sharing context, making events work, teaching what I know, and helping someone else take the next step.
The point of volunteering
For me, volunteering is not about collecting affiliations. It is a way to put technical, organisational, and communication skills in service of experiences that people can actually join and benefit from.
That means being dependable with the unglamorous parts: preparation, coordination, documentation, timing, accessibility, and follow-through. Those details make a community feel trustworthy.
